This is the place to come when you feel that your interviewing or networking style is not quite “up to snuff”. It is a participatory program where those who attend get involved and “get the wheels turning”.
Here's what some participants have to say about the tune-up program:
"Great way to practice your interview skills so you are prepared when it really matters." --- Michelle Maas
"Helpful information and feedback. --- Deborah B.
"The small size of the group allowed me to interact with, and get to know and benefit from the job seeking experiences of the other participants. --- Dave
"This session gives those in job transition a chance to practice interviewing and networking. --- Mark Karraker
Details of the tune-up program:
In the introductory portion of the meeting the participants talk about how their week has gone with special attention to victories or challenges in the interviewing and networking spheres.
In dealing with interviewing we will do such things as:
- Pair up for practice interviews
- Do sample interviews in front of the group, sometimes using audio tape or video tape
- Have participants report on what they learned about interviewing from specific readings
- Have brief talks about interviewing by the group leader or a guest
In dealing with networking we will do such things as:
- Have reviews and leader led discussions about networking techniques and the challenges one faces in networking
- Practice among the group doing networking exercises (role playing)
- Discussions and instruction about LinkedIn and other social media tools and how they can be applied (and
misapplied) in networking
- Have participants report on networking techniques recommended by specific sources
- Suggest the participants set weekly goals for networking
As participants will get to know each other well, this should be a good context for networking amongst the group.
